Meet the Staff

Nancy Tystad Koupal

The driving force behind the creation of the Press in 1997, Nancy overseas the operations of this important institution for the South Dakota State Historical Society. She is the chief editor for publications, and leads the processing of potential manuscripts, while maintaining important connections for the Press.

Jeanne Ode
Managing Editor or South Dakota History and Associate Editor

Jeanne overseas publication of South Dakota History, the quarterly journal of the South Dakota State Historical Society. As editor of the journal, she reads manuscripts, edits articles, coordinates book reviews, and supervises production of the journal by proofing final layout and copy. In her role as an Associate Editor, Jeanne aides the team in manuscript review and editing.

Jennifer McIntyre
Marketing Director and Associate Editor

As Marketing Director, Jennifer is the Press's publicity contact for author interviews, book signings, conferences, or marketing campaigns. She also develops and implements all promotional and marketing activities for the Press, including all online presences. She works to acquire, review, and edit manuscripts as a part of her position as an associate editor.

Rodger Hartley
Production Manager and Associate Editor

Rodger works as a liaison between printers and designers that work with the Press, as well as managing the shipment and storage of new books in his role as production manager. As an associate editor he organizes source materials and checks research, indexes, and illustrations. He also completes other editorial work as it is required.

Steve Witte
Associate Editor and Assistant Editor of South Dakota History

In his editorial roles, Steve works with the publication of South Dakota History as well as Press manuscripts. As a part of his duties with the journal, he reads manuscripts, edits articles, recruits reviewers, and sends books out for review. In his associate editor position he is an integral part of the Press's manuscript team reading works, making revisions, and communicating with authors throughout the publishing process.

Lisa Nold
Accounting and Editorial Assistant

Lisa Assists with bookkeeping tasks and processes orders for the State Historical Society's Research and Publishing program. She provides editorial assistance for the Press publications as well as for South Dakota History by proofreading eBooks, manuscripts, and articles, confirming source material, and finalizing editorial changes to manuscripts.
